Crazy
Life has been busy lately and now I log on here and everything looks different... Wow. Anyway, highlights from recent weeks: 1) I am going to grad school this fall. 2) Mom had surgery on her wrist. 3) People I know are getting married left and right. 4) I have a new car. 5) I have almost purchased Dr. Who - the new series - about a dozen times in the last few months. 6) TobyMac is awesome and if you ever have an opportunity to see him perform live I would highly recommend it. So tired...
I don't know why I keep trying to post when I'm half asleep, but I do. Oh well. My office sent out an interesting little article on the rise of e-books in academic publishing and in publishing in general if memory serves me. I will have to share some of that article soon - perhaps the whole thing. On the one hand, it saddens me greatly to think that they could ever replace an actual book with a digital file. On the other hand, I have ot admit that there are some pretty cool features to some e-books (the ones that go beyond a mere pdf file.) I can't imagine an honest-to-God paper-and-binding book ever becoming a thing of the past. The feel, the smell, the look of books is just an all around enjoyable experience. (Anyone ever read R.O.D.?) There is something about holding a book that just can't be duplicated by looking at a screen. The experience is just different - more tactile and real in a way... Okay, I will stop blabbing about e-books versus real books until I have had some sleep and posted at least some of the article that brought on this burst of psychobabble. Current Mood: tired |

Life is fragile
My Aunt had a mild heart attack yesterday. There was no warning. Thank God she is a nurse and was at work when it happened and not driving out to Long Island by herself like she was supposed to this morning. Thank God she is doing better now - she is out of the ICU and they are now doubting if it was a full-out heart attack. (I have trouble buying that after hearing her description of the experience.) My sister talked to her boyfriend, my mom had my dad and her other sister and brothers. I wish I had someone. Current Mood: lonely |

Let's see: pulse? check, color in cheeks? check - I guess it's official. I'm alive! Hehehe - I know I don't post here very often, but yes, I am alive. In most recent news, I had a job interview yesterday and I am working on the project which is part of the second phase of the interview process. Hopefully all will go well. Updates to follow as soon as there are updates to be had. Also: Happy Early Birthday Kelley B.!!!!! Lastly, what would people think of a play about a man who sits in a coconut tree in a park, throwing coconuts at people to knock some sense into them? Current Mood: thoughtful |

What do I post about?
Hmmm....that is a very good question. I'm not sure I have the answer. Hmm...I know - go to this website and check out this comic: http://crazyman.mattweeks.com/index.html (Free plug for The Crazy Man!) Other then that I could say I'm waiting to hear back about an interview still. ::Shrugs:: Nothing new about that. Oh! I just thought of something post-worthy: I am writing a play. It's called The Cocnut Man and it is a spoof of sorts. I started scribbling it last year as a joke and I dug it out and decided to polish it up. The next time I post I will include a sample of it. =o) Current Mood: tired |

Boo!
Really tired right now, but felt I should post SOMETHING at least... I went to TCNJ's homecoming today. The football team can actually win!!! The campus is as nice as ever, though the new library is still a bit of a shock and there are several small areas that have been randomly spruced up. All in all a good day. =o) Current Mood: exhausted |

Surprise!
The answer to the question you are all asking yourselves is yes. Yes - I do exist in the absence of Dancing with the Stars. Life has been on the crazy side for awhile, particularly of late. A few key points: I team-teach a seminar at the Professional Service Group, which is part of the Department of Labor. We have a new car because a stupid teenager smashed my sister's old car swirving to avoid hitting a squirrel at 1am. (Don't all neighborhoods come with nocturnal squirrels?) Prospective trip to NC, though there is sadness due to hospitalization of relative there. In other news: Lost Boys = good movie; Lost Boys Sequel = OMG please don't kill it too badly... Monster Squad - funny movie with absolutely no transition between the touchingly sad moment and the generally happy and upbeat ending. That is all for now. Current Mood: exhausted |

Dancing with the Stars!!!
Apolo Anton Ohno is on dancing with the stars this season! He's an Olympic speedskater (he won gold in 2002), he's 24 (25 in May), two inches taller then me and cute to boot! I like Dancing with the Stars in general, and him being on it just ups the enjoyment factor for me. He's probably the only non-figure skating Olympian I actually know of. I watched the race where he won his metal, so it's kewl to get to see what a totally amazing dancer he is turning out to be. (Though it makes sense that the boy would be able to move.) I plan on voting for him every week, just to do my little part to ensure that he stays on the show. =o) On a random side note: waiting for the word on this job is killing me!!!! Happy birthday to me!
Today is my birthday! =o) A rather damp, chilly and wet birthday, but I don't really have any complaints. I didn't really have any plans for tonight, so it's not like I've had to give up my celebration. I went out for dinner with my family last night and I'm going to Beatle-fest with Elaine on Sunday. (Hopefully this precipitation will be melted/cleared by then.) I had a job interview this past Tuesday, and I'm hoping that it went as well as I think it did. For once I felt like an interview really went well and I had a real chance at the job (a job I actually want), and that's in spite of my cell phone ringing during the interview! I'm keeping my fingers crossed and trying not to hope too hard. Current Mood: chipperCurrent Music: Dr. Doolittle |

Baby!!!!
Today is a special day - and not because it's Vamentine's Day. Today marked the begining of the life of Logan James Carlin. Logan is my cousin Christopher's third child, and his only son. He was born between 6 and 7pm and he is 9 pounds 3 ounces. (Big baby!!) He has dark hair, which, surprisingly, my grandmother thought he would after she had a dream about him last week. Welcome to the world Logan!!! PS. I get to see Spamalot tomorow!!!! Current Mood: excitedCurrent Music: the song about needing Jews to succeed on broadway |

Jobs and other things that are actually fun
So, I'm begining to wonder how necessary employment really is. Afterall, how fulfilling is going to the same office every day and doing some phase of the same process each and every day? I think that jobs should be abolished. People should be able to do what makes them happiest. (Yes, I am having trouble with my job search and I am not happy with it at the moment.) On a much happier note: I am going to see SPAMALOT!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohooo!!! I got tickets and Brian and I are going next month. =o) And Karen is going with her friend Ilana about a week later. It is going to be fun. Not sure what kind of note this is, maybe an optimistic or hopeful one, but I have decided to enter a writing contest. Writer's Digest is having a contest and I want to enter. The only thing that annoys me is that the last story I wrote is too long by about 1,100 words. Boo! =op I think I may use my story about the girl in therapy. I know my other one - about the triplets where one is dead - is too long. Unless I only send part of it...nah, you need the whole thing. Hmmm...reading over these brief descriptions I realize that a lot of my stories are depressing in concept. I hope they aren't all depressing in completion. I don't think they are. Boo!
Hello!!! I am still alive, I just haven't had an opportunity to update in forever. =op To play catch up: The holidays went well - lots of fun family stuff - and: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! That said, I have actually had some activity on the job front lately. I got three calls last week - a new record, especially since they were all in one day. One was not what I had hoped - it is an insurance company, which isn't bad, but it's commision only. I'm seriously questioning my sanity for agreeing to come to the second part of the interview. I'm hoping it will go fast, or that I can sneak out early or something. ::shrugs:: The others aren't all that exciting: a library and a car rental company. I'll see how they go. I'm hoping to get a nibble from something else soon too. Push comes to shove I have a job for awhile and then change. In more fun news: I finished the story I was working on!!!! I want one or two more people to read it before I'm certain it's as done as it can be right now, but I feel 99% sure it is. =o) It is possibly one of the best things I've written to date, so that is exciting. =o) Current Music: "Stumble" by Natasha Bedingfield |
